it help you to answer "doing M.tech from IITs is worthy or not""hows m.tech in IITs for mechanical guys "
Branch - Mech.
Rank 1-500: Fair chance to get PSU
Rank 500-800: There is a chance to get PSU depends on interview and vacancy, but they should have another option for backup
Rank 800-3500: The only option is M.TECH, but still there are some students in this rank who perform well in their interviews and get PSUs.
M.TECH (for mech): Mainly three kinds of students are there in MTech:-
1) looking for placement
2) planning for PhD
3) still preparing for GATE or another govt. job
Let's talk about placement and life in IIT:-
I think every engineering student should live this life; this is an entirely different and exciting experience. Once you come to campus, there are a lot of things to explore in every field. Every week you will get a chance to interact with the famous personality of India who is doing something different in their life (like entrepreneur, YouTuber, blogger, standup comedy etc.). Many startup events are organised over the weekend. What I want to say is that you will get the chance to live your passion, your dream. You will get a completely different environment. Apart from all this if we talk about coursework, mostly you will study practical application or implementation of things that you learn in your theory classes in industrial or project problems. We can say you will be a real engineer after MTech. You learn many software and coding, like Ansys, MATLAB, C, C++.
Placement: In topmost IIT like Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur you will definitely be placed because no. of MTech student are very less(high ranker prefer those colleges, and after PSU result most of them leaves). I think this year around 30 students are doing their MTech in IIT Bombay. That's why the placement percentage is high in these colleges. I am doing my MTech from IIT Guwahati. Our batch has around 90 students, and senior batch also has the same (see the difference). Out of 90, 30 seniors are placed. Last year it was around 50 students (placed), every year it varies (up-down). But if you are sincerely doing your MTech, no one can stop you.
beauty of iitg campus:- most part of college is covered with mountains, lakes, trees. one side of campus is surrounded by Brahmaputra river. for me most important thing is swimming pool.
